Global Translational Medicine Lead

The Opportunity:

As the Global Translational Medicine Lead, you will lead the development and execution of the Translational Medicine strategy in the development of Astellas’ assets. You should have a record of accomplishment of developing and executing translational science/medicine programs with mechanistically grounded biomarker and patient selection strategies. The ability to work in cross-functional teams is essential to the success of this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and executes translational science and biomarker development plans, defining patient selection strategies for clinical studies.
  • Provides key specifics on mechanism of action, biomarker identification, and patient selection strategies while contributing to overall development strategy and trial design.
  • Works with the clinical team to implement biomarker sample collection, bioanalysis, and data interpretation.
  • Contributes to clinical documents, including protocols, IBs, study reports, statistical analysis plans, publications, CSRs, and biomarker sections of regulatory submissions.
  • Leads reverse translation to leverage clinical results for development strategy and enhances understanding of the mechanism of action for clinical translation.
  • Drives innovation by identifying and evaluating state-of-the-art technologies and establishing external collaborations focused on translational medicine.

Essential Knowledge & Experience:

  • Extensive experience in drug discovery and development within biotech/pharmaceutical companies or equivalent translational research at an academic institution.
  • Broad knowledge of cancer biology, cancer genomics, and oncology drug development.
  • Expertise in identifying and validating pharmacodynamic and patient selection biomarkers, biomarker assay qualification, and clinical implementation.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive high-quality, timely results through influence in a matrix environment.
  • Strong technical experience with DNA, RNA, and protein-based biomarker assays (e.g., PCR, NGS, ELISA/MSD, IHC) and fit-for-purpose biomarker assay qualification/validation.
  • Innovation-driven mindset with a track record of integrating new technologies into translational and biomarker research, along with strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in developing and managing academic collaboration and CRO work.

Education:

  • Advanced science degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD) with primary focus in oncology and/or immuno-oncology or equivalent.

Additional information:

This is a permanent, full-time position
Position is based in the United Kingdom or in the Netherlands.
This position follows our hybrid working model. Role requires a blend of home and a minimum of 1 day per quarter in our London or Leiden. Flexibility may be required in line with business need.
