What You Will Contribute To Altos

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Associate to join the Zhang Lab in the Altos Labs San Diego Institute of Science. Specifically, we are looking for an individual to assist in developing cell models and conducting phenotypic assays (50% of time) and assist with plasmid generation, molecular biology experiments and downstream tissue processing (50% of time). The individual must be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, and be willing to work in a dynamic, fast-growing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain cell culture models and generate stable cell lines.
  • Conduct phenotypic in vitro assays, including ELISA, qPCR, immunofluorescence imaging and FACS, across different cell types.
  • Generate plasmids and scale up production using standard molecular biology pipelines.
  • Process tissue through standard genomics pipelines (e.g. generation of bulk and single cell RNA sequencing libraries)
  • Thoroughly document processes and results.
  • Assist with routine lab tasks (e.g. lab management, ordering, receiving).
  • Present findings at internal group meetings.

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree plus at least two years of wet lab experience in a molecular and cell biology lab (industry or academia).
  • Experience with the following:
  • Mammalian cell culture experience is required.
  • Basic molecular biology techniques are required.
  • Experience with genomics assays and NGS library preparation is required.
  • Experience with tissue processing is required.
  • Excellent record keeping skills in a lab setting (familiarity with ELNs preferred).
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with a broad range of people.
    Demonstrated high productivity and ability to complete work in a timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with stable cell line generation
  • Experience with lentivirus and AAV generation
  • In vivo experience

The salary range for San Diego, CA:

  • Research Associates I: $84,150 – $113,850
  • Research Associates II: $101,150 – $136,850

Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
