The primary purpose for the incumbent in this role is to support scientists by working on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, recognizing the need for occasional deviation from accepted practices such as:

• Maintaining laboratory stocks (such as aliquoting cell culture reagents, consumables etc.)
• Overseeing daily laboratory upkeep, including waste management, equipment checks and inventory.
• Liaising with suppliers and ordering reagents to restock or on request.

While errors may result in delays and minor cost impacts, the role normally follows established procedures for routine work and requires instructions for new assignments. The individual works under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Run pre-established experimental procedures, with guidance from managers or colleagues.
• Prepare communal laboratory reagents and biological samples.
• Stock control, purchasing, and timely distribution of lab reagents and consumables.
• Oversee maintenance and servicing of lab equipment and report faults.
• Perform general laboratory housekeeping tasks, including waste disposal and treatment.
• Maintain laboratory glassware.
• Maintain accurate and timely records of completed work.

Experience and Knowledge – Essential

• Worked within a laboratory environment in industry, healthcare, or an academic setting.
• Experience in operating and maintaining standard laboratory equipment.
• Experience in producing general laboratory reagents.
• Shown flexibility and willingness to learn new techniques and adopt new practices.
• Actively contributed within a diverse team environment.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook.
• Proven ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain accurate records.
• Excellent time management skills.

Experience and Knowledge – Desirable

• Experience in a similar role in industry, healthcare, or academia
• Previous laboratory experience within protein engineering, microbiology, or cell biology area
• Experience in aseptic techniques

Essential Qualifications:

• A Level or BSc in biology or related scientific discipline
• Typically requires a minimum of 2+ years of related experience.
