Professional Research Surgeon

21st Century Medicine, Inc. seeks a Professional Research Surgeon to perform micro-surgery during
preclinical projects involving improved transplant graft function after prolonged biochemical
preservation. Our microsurgical unit is funded through foundation grants, NIH SBIR/STTR grants and
through contracted research programs. 21CM has routinely performed kidney, heart & corneal
transplants in research animals.

The applicant for this position will perform experiments primarily using a rabbit kidney transplant model
to study the role of both hypothermic and cryothermic preservation techniques on graft function.
The use of larger animal models and other organ transplant models are anticipated in both the near and
more distant future.

The PRS will primarily perform rabbit kidney transplants. Approximately 35% of the PRS’s time will be
devoted to performing non-surgical work such as ordering supplies, making solutions, organizing
samples, collecting data, preparing reports, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent with at least 5 years of direct demonstrable skill and experience
performing microsurgery in a small animal model.

Preferred Qualifications:

DVM, VMD, MD or foreign equivalency, with current demonstrable skill and experience performing
kidney and/or heart transplantation in small animals, plus some basic knowledge of small animal
handling, biochemical techniques, cryobiology, molecular biology, RNA isolation, data collection &
reduction techniques, statistics, etc.
