6-Month Contract

An exciting opportunity is available for an exceptional, highly motivated Scientist, Computational Biology with an understanding of human genetics at the Institute of Computation (IoC) at Altos Labs.

Responsibilities:

  • Harvest and analyze data from genetic association testing to dissect the molecular and cellular basis of disease.
  • Conduct computational research related to areas such as chronic disease risk and modifiers thereof by integrating data from multiple biologic sources (i.e. genetics, molecular biomarkers, phenotyping)
  • Enable scalable research efforts by supporting the ingestion, storage, harmonization, QC, and access of large data resources
  • Confer with information technology, computational biology, and machine learning specialists to enable and streamline genetic data analysis.
  • Contribute to a team culture that promotes continuous improvement, ownership, professional growth, and inclusion

Who You Are

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Statistical Genetics, Data Science, or Computer Science
  • 3+ years experience in an academic postdoctoral or industry research setting
    Familiarity with data from genetic association testing (e.g. GWAS, rare variant analysis)
  • Experience with large nation-scale biobank data (e.g. UK Biobank), understanding of genetic, omics, and disease ontology data
  • Proficiency in relevant programming languages (Python, R, AI/MLetc.) and best practices in reproducible data analysis
  • Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to thrive in the highly collaborative environment across Altos
  • Team player and effective communicator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with the UK Biobank Research Access Platform (RAP) or similar biobank IDE.
  • History of generating reproducible workflows or pipelines for bioinformatic data analysis
  • Prior experience with GWAS summary statistics harmonization and QC, fine-mapping, colocalization, Mendelian Randomization

The hourly range for Redwood City, CA:

Scientist II, Computational Biology (6 month CONTRACT): $84.00 – $121.00/hour

The hourly range for San Diego, CA:

Scientist II, Computational Biology (6 month CONTRACT): $78.00 – $106.00/hour
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location.
