As a Staff Software Engineer at LabGenius, you will:

Provide technical direction and drive innovation.
Collaborate with our talented team of scientists, data scientists and software engineers to deliver our ambitious internal and partnered drug discovery programmes.
Work on projects with strategic value to the company and lead the technical development of tools and services to automate experiments and process scientific data at scale.
Mentor and sponsor junior team members, fostering growth and development within the team.
You will ultimately help us build a future where AI rapidly engineers novel, life-enhancing biotherapeutics. As this is a senior position in the software team, this role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership and mentoring skills, and a deep understanding of the biotech industry.

This is a hybrid role, with a requirement to be on site at least 3 days per week.

What you’ll do in this role

  • Architect and lead the development of our machine learning drug discovery platform in partnership with Data Scientists.
  • Design and implement solutions to ensure data is managed in accordance with FAIR data principles.
  • Configure, maintain and build integrations for our lab information management systems (Benchling).
  • Partner with wet lab and data scientists to understand their problems and offer scalable and robust solutions.
  • Leverage Google Cloud Platform to deploy, manage and secure applications and data.
  • Drive the maintenance and continuous improvement of our software by championing best practices in testing, code quality, security, documentation, and architecture.
  • Mentor and support the growth of other engineers through activities such as design reviews, pair programming, code reviews, peer reviews, and direct 1:1 mentoring.

What we’re looking for

  • 7+ years of experience in building and deploying production-grade software applications.
  • Solid foundation in a scientific discipline, with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in a similar area.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud providers.
  • Strong proficiency in cloud infrastructure development using Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools.
  • Extensive experience in developing Python applications in a production environment.
  • Experience building user interfaces with modern web frameworks, such as React and TypeScript/JavaScript.
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence with handling and interpreting scientific data.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and lead complex technical initiatives while also collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing other engineers, fostering team growth and technical excellence.
  • Track record of deep-diving into a complex domain with a willingness to learn about molecular biology, protein engineering, and automation to enhance job effectiveness and contribute to the company’s mission.
